..which may be much sooner than we think. Not only do we need to worry about not having fuel for transport but all those items that depend on petroleum based products would no longer be able to be produced: furniture, pharmaceuticals, communications. There is no future in oil.

Prop 23, pushed by oil money, would suspend California’s visionary clean energy laws. Those in favor will argue that the laws kill jobs. This is a smoke screen for the oil industry. Thick black smelly oil-fire smoke.

A group of 118 economists have refuted the claim. The laws actually create more jobs in future-oriented energy initiatives.

Greenpeace to Probe Environmental Damage from BP Oil Spill in Gulf

Greenpeace will be departing from a port in St. Petersburg, Florida on Thursday to explore the environmental damage BP may have caused during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Oceans Campaign Director for Greenpeace, John Hocevar said, “From the very start, the full scope of the Gulf oil disaster has been obscured by BP and even our own government.”

Oil Company Day-to-Day Damage

Even in the absence of a devastating spill, the reality is that oil companies are damaging simply in their day-to-day operations. Like the tobacco industry, the oil industry makes a product that, when used according to its instructions, causes great harm. The US government just released its annual State of the Climate report, cementing the findings of human-caused climate change, a phenomenon that Big Oil continues to shrug off, and lobby against addressing. The devastation of the BP spill compounds costs that, in reality, are no less part of the toll, and no less hidden from us. One recent study suggests that by 2030 the global costs of dealing with climate change might be as high as $300 billion a year. These costs will ultimately get paid—just not by the oil industry.

Kalamazoo Oil Spill

There is no future in oil:

AUGUSTA — Kalamazoo County officials declared a state of emergency Tuesday afternoon as more than 800,000 gallons of oil released into a creek began making its way downstream in the Kalamazoo River.

“I just came from Fort Custer and you can smell it now,” Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said. “… It’s all rolling downhill and there are a lot of complications.”
